Book review: Meet Me At The Cupcake Café - Jenny Colgan

Meet Me At The Cupcake Café

The blurb.
Issy Randall can bake. No, more than that – Issy can create stunning, mouth-wateringly divine cakes. After a childhood spent in her beloved Grampa Joe’s bakery she has undoubtedly inherited his talent. So when she’s made redundant from her safe but dull City job, Issy decides to seize the moment and open up her own café. It should be a piece of cake, right?

Wrong. As her friends point out, she has trouble remembering where she left her house keys, let alone trying to run her own business. But Issy is determined. Armed with recipes posted to her from Grampa, and with her local bank manager fighting her corner, Issy attempts to prove everyone wrong. Following your dreams is never easy and this is no exception. Can Issy do it?

My opinion.

Another lovely summer read. The story is about dreams, ambition, family, love and so much more. I love how Izzy got to accomplish every single one of those goals. She made some unexpected decisions concerning her love life, but those were easily forgiven for the way she decided to run her business and her exciting group of friends gave her a hard time about her decisions concerning guys anyway ;-)
About those friends. Helena always stayed a mystery to me, but a very good friend and a rock for Izzy. She seems like the best friend for Izzy, who needs some tough love from time to time. Pearl... I wasn't sure what to make of her at first, but I warmed up to her. The same goes for her: she's the perfect business partner for Izzy. Pearl is able to share her dreams, but keeps it realistic and is not afraid to 'call earth' to Izzy. And then we have Caroline... I hated her, absolutely hated her. I love how Izzy saw something in her and gave her a chance. I can't say I like her all that much, but she has her heart in the right place and once you can see through the snobbishness, you'll see she really is trying to be a good friend to Izzy.
Really enjoyed reading this book! Highly recommended!
